This Future Looks Bleak

I really hate two things in science fiction; time travel stories, and dystopian futures. Neither is done well very often. As escapist fiction goes (my favorite kind), I think dystopian fiction, in particular, does little to fulfill its promise. However, I might need to rethink my disdain for dystopia, given this video purportedly prepared by the Pentagon. They predict a dark and largely urban future that bodes ill for most of our planet’s population. Does this really (if it comes to pass) mean that we’ll see more dystopian fiction, or in reaction to the reality will science fiction writers steer away from stories that strike to close to true?
